From the moment we started conceptualizing the design approach for the Cabotville, our intention and focus was on showcasing the historic properties and aspects of each individual building, while tying them all together with a clean, modern aesthetic.
On the interior, we plan to highlight architectural elements that will accentuate the history of the buildings, such as old brickwork, rough-hewn beams and exposed steel and wood. The intention of our design concept is to create a warm, but modern aesthetic, that will appeal to the marketplace, with updated finishes throughout, as well as new kitchens and bathrooms, that still allow the beauty of the historical buildings to shine through.
On the exterior, we want to maintain the beautiful brickwork and architectural details, and weave in more stylized entry canopies that will elegantly blend the two aesthetics of historic and modern. Insofar as the canopies, our goal is to create a minimalistic design, with glass and stainless steel, so as not to detract from the building’s architectural details. Our goal is to enhance the building’s architectural presence, which is why it was important for us to forego using a traditional colored cloth canopy.
We’ve chosen to use stainless steel, blackened steel and glass as our finishes, in an attempt to juxtapose the concept of “old and new” while preserving the historic character. In our opinion, a minimalistic design for the canopies and signage projects an understated elegance and urbane quality, that is right for its downtown location, and in line with the burgeoning growth of the city.
One of the most critical design focuses for the project was the design of the replacement glass windows currently within the buildings. After much thought and discussion, we decided that we would need to design something that would simultaneously satisfy the needs of the future tenants, as well as enhance the beauty of the building. We’ve chosen a very simple design that will showcase the historic qualities of the buildings. We are proposing to use a very inconspicuous metallic finish. The result will look appropriate to the building, as well as function well for the tenants.
